A couple of local stars picked up scholarship offers on Monday, as things are starting to pick up steam on the recruiting front high school football prospects. Inside, we have the scoop plus additional news/notes from around the area.
Darius “JuJu” Williams (pictured) of Hemingway picked up his first scholarship offer on Monday night.
We knew it was only a matter of time for offer number one to come strolling in for Hemingway junior defensive end/tight end, Darius “JuJu” Williams. The 6-3, 220-pound star picked up his first offer from Chattanooga last night. Another program that has been hot on Williams’s trail is Georgia State, as the 2019 star informed us that he will be taking a trip to Atlanta this weekend. We will keep you posted.
The scholarship offers are steadily rolling in for Oceanside Collegiate senior wideout, Gerald Shephard. Fairmont State was the latest program to offer the talented Lowcountry wideout. Shephard now has a total of six offers to his name. Culver-Stockton, Morningside, West Virginia State, Glenville State, and Limestone were the first programs on board.
Keep an ear out for Fort Dorchester junior linebacker prospect, Davon Gilmore. On this past season, Gilmore recorded 139 tackles, 14 TFL, 4 sacks, 1 interception, and 2 forced fumbles for the Patriots. The Lowcountry junior is currently receiving interest from a few DIs throughout the Southeast, and has taken unofficial visits to Coastal Carolina and Georgia State this fall. Bluffton senior OL Quan Bell is being courted heavily by a couple of DIII programs, Greensboro College and Manchester University, both which have extended him invitations to join their programs. The 6-3, 335-pounder is waiting patiently for more programs to jump on board. We will let you know how things pan out with his recruitment.
Baptist Hill High School will be competing for the Class A State Championship Title this Friday night in Columbia, SC. They will take on the Silver Foxes of Lamar High School. The Bobcats are led by senior quarterback, Corey Fields. Heading into Friday night’s game, Fields has completed 189 passes out of 254 attempts for 3830 yards and 51 touchdowns, with only 10 interceptions. The field general has also accumulated 800 yards on the ground and 9 touchdowns this fall. But what’s really amazing, is that he only has one scholarship offer to his name. Figure that one out…
Richard Bailey, Jay Burnell, and Rashad Maxwell are his top targets. On the season, Bailey has caught 56 passes for 1417 yards and 21 touchdowns, Burnell has caught 53 passes for 975 yards and 9 touchdowns, while junior wideout Rashad Maxwell has caught 41 balls for 859 yards and 18 scores.
Senior MLB Dee’Ke Lang has received credit for 135 tackles and 11 sacks, cornerback Tyler Scott has 10 INTs on the season and 55 stops, while junior Jamar Baron has registered 100 tackles in ‘17.
