A bond between a running back and his offensive line is vital when it comes to establishing a successful running game. Neither can be their best without the other, and when one struggles the other is almost certain to as well.
A number of local running backs took time out to share with us how appreciative they are for the big guys up front, who’ve been paving the way for them all season long.
“They are the backbone to the madness. Everything I do as a running back reflects on them. I wouldn’t be what I am today or would not have been able to do what I’ve done so far without them.” – Stratford 2019 RB Mario Anderson
“Those guys have worked the hardest on our whole team since last spring. They got over-powered in many of our games last year, and took it to heart. They lead by example in every way possible. They are the first out on the field for practice and often the last out of the locker room for clean-up. There’s no other group of guys in the Lowcountry that I would rather take a snap behind, on any day of the week.” – James Island Charter 2018 RB Jermaine Alston
“The O-Line is where it all starts, and they’ve been working hard all-season long. Those guys work hard every day, and they’re always talking to me about schemes and making sure that I understand them and vice versa. They deserve a lot of the credit for helping our offense to be where it is today.” – First Baptist 2019 RB Michel Dukes
“I have to give a big shout out to our offensive line. If it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be having the success I’m having right now.” – Timberland 2018 RB Kevin Williams
“I have the best O-Line in the state. I wouldn’t be having the season I am right now if it wasn’t for them. Coach stays on them all the time about practice going over the basics so they can prefect them. And so far, I feel like they are doing a good job at that. We still have a lot of room to improve. I have all my trust in my O-Line. No one pays any attention to the O-Line and what they do, but every time I score or get a good run, I thank them because they make holes and I just run through them.” – Fort Dorchester 2018 RB Drew Parker
“The O-Line has helped me a lot during the season so far. I wouldn’t be able to do what I’m doing right now if it wasn’t for them. The O-Line that we have are great leaders to our team.” – Summerville 2018 RB Darryl Hancock
